VET SOS began offering services to homeless people and their pets in 2001, using a $1000 start-up grant. Since then, all medical supplies and operating expenses are donated. VET SOS would like to expand its services but needs your help in order to do that.

The TINY TICKETS Program, developed by the East Bay Community Foundation in cooperation with BART, makes it possible for you to redeem your unused tickets and earmark the proceeds for VET SOS.

  • Significantly increased by 39 percent our services to companion animals of homeless San Franciscans:

- 423 animals received urgent & preventive medical care
- 77 tested on-site for infectious diseases
- 391 animals received vaccinations
- 231 animals received medication
- 48 animals were spayed/ neutered
- 30 animals received emergency medical transport and care
- 769 animals received food and/or pet supplies
- 308 animals received flea & tick preventative

  • Provided health care information to 174 homeless San Franciscans with companion animals
  • Provided veterinary care and supplies at all five of San Francisco's Project Homeless Connect events, where pet owners accessed health and social services
  • Provided medical care to animals of homeless San Franciscans in Golden Gate Park during Notre Dame de Namur University’s Thanksgiving Day Picnic
  • Participated as a partner in the San Francisco Disaster Preparedness Coalition for Animals, spearheaded by San Francisco Animal Care & Control and the Office of Emergency Services
  • Named as a recipient of a generous endowment to Pets Unlimited from Ms. Nina Ireland for emergency medical care to VET SOS clients.
  • Increased operating revenue by 75 percent to sustain services.
  • Recruited 33 new volunteers, which increased ability to serve more animals
  • Featured in four media pieces that expanded knowledge of work & positively addressed public perception of homeless pet ownership
