A volunteer-based project providing free veterinary care for the
companion animals of homeless San Franciscans

Donate to VETSOS

VET SOS began offering services to homeless people and their pets in 2001, using a $1000 start-up grant. Since then, all medical supplies and operating expenses are donated. VET SOS would like to expand its services but needs your help in order to do that.

“We were so blessed for your services in 2008 when we were in a transition from losing our home. Your services provided rabies and other vaccinations, spay/neutering (through the San Francisco SPCA), and food for them. We are grateful.”

Although she was struggling to care for her own needs, Julie rescued her kitten, Commander Milk, from a local junk yard. She then rescued her pet rat, Rattatouille, from an individual who was selling him for a pack of cigarettes. This loving VETSOS family lives in a van, where Rattatouille curls up every night on Commander Milk's stomach.

VETSOS client Christine is reunited with her beloved dog Darby following an emergency hospitalization. Witnessing the challenges of pet ownership while homeless, two young teen girls in Darby's foster home (arranged by VETSOS) became active VETSOS volunteers.
